Public Sector Organisation of the Year Award
The winner for this category has now been announced. Congratulations to all our finalists in this category.
Open to all government and public sector organisations across the globe committed to excellence in project delivery and outcomes.
There are four organisational award categories, representing different types of organisations. The Public Sector Organisation category is for government and public sector organisations that have delivered outstanding projects, programmes or portfolios. Judges are looking for organisations who stand out by delivering project excellence in delivery and outcomes.
We require entrants to all organisational award categories to produce a submission of 1,500–2,500 words (in English) based on the judging criteria. Entrants may also submit up to four pieces of supporting evidence - images or graphics only (no text apart from captions). Evidence must support information already included in the submission and must not introduce additional elements. Please see further details on the ‘Supporting evidence’ tab of the Awards platform.
Video and audio is not accepted as part of the submission.
The Public Sector Organisation of the Year category is a written stage only judging category and is open to organisations across all sectors globally.
Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) holds a unique position in Government and the Defence Sector, equipping and supporting the UK Armed Forces. We employ over 11,500 people and deliver over 600 projects adapting at pace to emerging threats and world events.
We work with armed forces and industry partners to deliver an annual programme that exceeds £13 billion and includes some of the most complex programmes in the world.
Judges comments
A very strong entry, praised by the panel for innovative projects with tight deadlines and high uncertainty, and ambiguity. A sophisticated project environment, supported by robust training, led to effective partnerships with NHS and defence suppliers - and the team received particular praise for the organisation’s ability to manage complex defence projects in a challenging geopolitical landscape.
Finalist | BBC
This nomination is for the transformation of the project management profession within the BBC – the world’s leading public service media broadcaster.
In Spring 2023, whilst the BBC celebrated huge success as it turned 100, its project, programme and portfolio colleagues (some 350 staff) were scattered across divisions, disconnected and with little sense of community or professional development.
In the last year this has totally changed; we now have tailored, industry-best practice guidance, tools and templates, a thriving community with high levels of engagement and a plan for almost 30% of colleagues to undertake APM qualifications this year.
Finalist | Government Project Delivery
The Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) is the government’s centre of expertise for Government Project Delivery. We aim to support and equip the 26,560 people working on projects across the government.
As part of our strategy to mature the profession, our focus has been on two main areas: to design, pilot and roll out the Government Project Delivery Accreditation Scheme to give our project delivery colleagues a common currency and ‘licence to operate’ to develop their careers. The second was to create a ‘one-stop-shop’ Government Project Delivery Hub, which brings together government information about standards, guidance, frameworks, tools and learning.
Finalist | Met Office
Science, technology and the wider environment is ever progressing and changing so our large portfolio of projects and programmes keep the Met Office as the global leaders in weather and climate science and services.
Projects are delivered to our own meteorologists, internal and external customers, providing weather and climate expertise, data, tools, systems and other products and services, helping us achieve our combined goal to stay safe and thrive.
Our Project Delivery Profession is invaluable in maintaining this world leading status, demonstrating outstanding P3M expertise alongside an exceptional desire to improve and continually develop individually and as a profession.
Finalist | Submarine Delivery Agency
The Submarine Delivery Agency delivers some of the biggest projects in government. To deliver world-class projects, we must be world-class project delivery professionals - that’s why we’re developing the next generation of project professionals and creating an environment that truly supports our workforce to deliver as individuals and in the teams across the agency.
Our focus on delivering our mission is absolute, so we are currently developing and refining our project delivery function to ensure success and become an exemplar in major defence programme delivery.
Finalist | UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is the largest public funder of research and innovation in the UK. We invest £8.9 billion of taxpayers’ money each year in research and innovation and the people who make it happen. We work across a huge range of fields – from quantum computing to biodiversity conservation, and from space telescopes to innovative healthcare - to catalyse and support new ideas and technologies.
We invest in the growth of our community of Project Profession colleagues, focusing on career development, knowledge sharing and best practice to deliver globally-leading research and innovation that makes the world a better place.
