Linda Moir and Peter Marsh to speak at APM Project Management Conference Manchester 2019
London 2012 head of events services, Peter Marsh will be delivering keynote speeches at the APM Project Management Conference Manchester, sponsored by Hyde Park Solutions on 26 June.
Marsh, former Financial Times manufacturing editor and author of The New Industrial Revolution, will be speaking about the history of mass manufacturing, the effect of the internet of things and the future of manufacturing in general.
He will attempt to answer some of the big questions around manufacturing such as: is it the saviour of the economy? Will China hold on to its 20 per cent share of worldwide manufacturing? And will Africa become the next manufacturing powerhouse?
Moir will share her experiences leading on the development of front-line events services at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. She was responsible for implementing a customer service strategy, including the innovative use of Games Makers to improve the experience for ticket holders.
She will elaborate on working within and nurturing a culture of customer-focused organisation, and how to implement change that really benefits both the business and the individuals within it.
Elsewhere at the conference, Julie McClean, head of quantitative research at PwC Research, will present the findings of Golden Thread, a joint research project between PwC and APM. The report explores the growth of ‘projectification’ in business and the role of project management in the UK economy.
APM’s ambitious new thought-leadership campaign, Projecting the Future, will also launch at the conference. Projecting the Future will be a 'big conversation' with members and stakeholders about the future of the project profession – covering off hot topics such as how the profession can thrive in a world of robotics and AI, climate change, and a rapidly ageing population.
Tim Banfield, chair of APM’s Projecting the Future group, will host a panel discussion to kick-start the conversation. A short white paper will be published along with the first in a series of regular issue challenges. The campaign will continue into 2020 through webinars, pro-active social media activity and member and corporate events later in 2019.
APM will be listening to the project profession, and those with a stake in it, to determine what the future will look like for project managers. The outcomes of these conversations will be revealed in 2020.
