On 1 September 2022, APM Greater Bay Area (GBA) Branch worked with the HK Ambassador of University College of Estate Management (UCEM), Mr Gabriel Lee, and successfully delivered a webinar with a professional topic- “Project Engineering Management”. It was our pleasure to have our committee member, Mr Jimmy Cheung sharing his 30-year experience in Energy industry. As the Principal Manager of CLP Holdings, Jimmy walked through Project Engineering Management including:

  1. What is Project Engineering Management
  2. Typical Project Organisation for large project
  3. Key Engineering Activities Throughout the project Lifecycle
  4. Engineering Requirement

During the presentation , Jimmy introduced:

  1. The typical project organization for large projects, and
  2. key engineering activities throughout project life cycle including pre-development, Development, Execution and Operation. Jimmy emphasised the importance of monitoring regulatory items. He also introduced how value engineering works for a cost-effective project.

On risk side, Jimmy introduced the Bowtie Risk analysis method, and highly recommended audiences to visit our recent webinar Smart Risk Management webinar (apm.org.uk) . Jimmy also raised the importance of “Post Implementation Reviews” which ensure the project development and execution align with operating performance data, and capture lessons learned for incorporation in future projects. Finally, Jimmy reminded everyone of the importance of design for a safe working environment.

After the presentation, our branch chair, Mr Jim Pippin, also introduced our December 2021 webinar The Peak Tram Upgrade Project - an Uphill Struggle webinar (apm.org.uk), and the CLP Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant D2 project to arouse audiences’ interest in joining project management professional (Site Visit – China Light and Power’s (CLP) Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant (CCGT) D2 Project (apm.org.uk)).

Jim also provided the information of APM qualifications and training for PFQ, PMQ, PPQ and ChPP. During the Q & A session, our chairman and committee member, Mr Joe Wong FAPM, answered audience questions including the project management professional’s roadmap, exam structure, exam candidate guidance, project managers interview tips; etc.

Here we would like to say thank you to Mr Gabriel Lee for the webinar arrangement. It was good to meet the 25 UCEM students and Alumni. We hope we provided enough information for the audience interest in project management professionals.

GBA Branch will continue to service all project management professionals in the area (Greater Bay Area including Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau). Please feel free to contact us and join our upcoming activities and webinars.
